Christmas Trees in the Villages

Witley Parish Council provided Christmas trees, mince pies and some mulled wine for the three village halls for the tenth year running. Fortunately, all three events took place in mild and quite dry weather.

The Chichester Hall lighting was held on Saturday the 28th November and attended by around 100 people a larger attendance than in the past, possibly because a Saturday suited families. All Saints Witley provided their choir once again, Reverend Jane Vlach spoke on the meaning of Christmas and Curate Ann Fraser blessed the tree and led the countdown to the lighting. Mulled wine was kindly supplied by the White Hart. Parish Councillors Stewart, McCalden, Grist, Sollars, Kinnes and Mills attended the evening.

The Milford Village Hall event took place as usual on a Friday, this year the 4th December. Once again, the St. John’s Milford and the Milford Baptist church choirs led the carols. Reverend Clive Potter and Pastor David Marston blessed the tree and the village. The countdown and lighting of the tree was again led by Dame Penelope Keith, Milford is the largest of the three events with over 200 people attending. Parish Councillors Hewitt, Sollars, Ingram, Kinnes, Grist, Mills and the Clerk attended the evening,

The Pirrie Hall lighting was held on Saturday, 5th December and attended by around 80 people. Holding this event on a Saturday rather than a Friday did not seem to have much effect on the attendance. King Edward’s School choir led the carols as usual. The Reverend David Standen spoke about Christmas and blessed the village and the tree. Mulled wine was supplied by the Dog and Pheasant. Parish Councillors Grist and Mills attended the evening.
